French Ceramic Artist Roger Capron Ceramic Tile Coffee Table MODEL soleil
Exceptional table composed colorful abstract ceramics on a steel structure covered in, one of which is a large radiant sun. This is the large edition and an iconic piece by Roger Capron, one of the greatest post war French Ceramicists.
This image of the sun began to be seen early in Capron's career as symbolic of the sun of the south of France. It became more seen during the 1960's in this colorful ceramic image on coffee tables composed of several elements of tiles in various configurations. His abstract images were influent by the artists working in the south of France, especially Picasso. Although many examples were made each one exhibits different coloration due to the unique qualities of glaze and fire.
Please refer to a similar image appearing in 1965 in the monograph Roger Capron, Ceramiste by Pierre Staudenmeyer, editions Norma 2003 p 96. Capron worked in Vallauris his entire career and his output was large and varied. Signed with a stamped impression of his signature. As Pavilion speicalizes in the work of artists and designers of France and Italy we love this table for its vibrant and happy quality celebrating the life of the south of France.
